A Twist on the Annual
Safe Trick-or-Treat Event is Happening at Fairgrounds
The First National Bank in Trinidad has had the honor of sponsoring a wonderful community tradition for the past 20 years with the Safe Trick-or-Treats for Kids and Costume Contest for Halloween. Year after year, Trinidad merchants have worked together to make this annual event a fun time for everyone. This year will hopefully be no different, but the plans are being made with a twist to comply with COVID-19 guidelines.
In cooperation with Art Cartopia Museum, the City of Trinidad Police Department, and Las Animas County Sheriff’s Department, The First National Bank in Trinidad plans to sponsor a “reverse parade” on Friday, October 30th at the Las Animas County Fairgrounds. Dubbed the “Safe Trick-or-Treat Drive-Thru Art Car Scare-o-Thon,” this event will hopefully keep everyone safe as cars full of parents and children drive around the perimeter of the fairgrounds to view the “Spooktakular” Art Cars that will be parked along the route. Upon exiting the parade route, volunteers will be handing out pre-packaged bags of candy to the youthful occupants of the cars as they drive out. Parade attendees will not be allowed to exit their vehicles, and volunteers will be handing out bags of candy while wearing protective masks and gloves.
Trinidad merchants have donated enough candy to fill 1,000 bags of treats that will be handed out at the event to be held on October 30th from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Because of COVID-19, the traditional Costume Contest and downtown Trick-or-Treat event will not be taking place this year. Event organizer, Chris Egland, Vice President with The First National Bank in Trinidad, says, “We hope the community will find this event a fun alternative – it’s Halloween with a twist! We’re excited to be able to continue this Trinidad tradition, even if it looks a little different this year. It is our goal to make Halloween special for the kids in our community while working to keep everyone safe and healthy.”
