Two Bank Employees Honored for Years of Service

Since 1875, The First National Bank in Trinidad has been a part of the Trinidad community, and many dedicated employees have come and gone over the years. Under current ownership, 14 employees have been with the Bank for over 10 years, 11 employees have been with the bank for 20 or more years, and 8 have careers spanning 30 or more years – this is a testimony to management and the pleasant work environment its employees and customers enjoy.

Because of the level of dedication from so many employees, the Bank makes an effort to recognize those who achieve banner anniversaries during their tenure with the institution. Two of those individuals who are celebrating milestone anniversaries this summer are Candy Asevedo, who is celebrating 30 years with the Bank, and Misty Medina, who is celebrating 20 years.

Candy Asevedo began her career with The First National Bank in Trinidad on July 16, 1990 after graduating from TSJC, where she attended on a scholarship. She was encouraged by a fellow classmate and Bank employee to apply for a job with the Bank. Candy was thrilled to receive the call from then Vice President, Johnny Niccoli, telling her she had been hired. She began in the bookkeeping department where she ran proof. Later she was trained in data entry, and in 2000 she took over payroll. Candy recalls, “I remember when I began doing payroll, we had 32 employees. Now we have 68.” She manages all of the employee benefits including the 401k retirement account and health insurance. She also oversees the VISA debit card account services and is supervisor of the proof department, and in 2007, Candy was promoted to Assistant Vice President. “I’ve seen a lot of changes in technology over the years, which has kept my job interesting. The Bank is a great place to work. I enjoy my job and working with my co-workers.” Candy was born in Ft. Carson, Colorado, but grew up in Trinidad and has lived here ever since. She has been married to her husband, Ken, for 46 years. Together they have four children, Bud, Misty, Mark and Jennifer. They have 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Misty Medina started working for The First National Bank in Trinidad on August 1, 2000 as a teller at the Wal-Mart Branch, where she worked for nine years. She was then promoted to the positon she now holds, as Head Teller at the Main Bank. Misty was born and raised in Trinidad. She and her husband Clay have two children, Alex age 17, and Erika age 13. Misty says, “My 20-year career with the Bank has been an enjoyable journey. I like working with customers, many of whom I’ve known all my life. This place is like home, these people are like family. I’ll stay as long as they will have me!” she says with a giggle. In her position as Head Teller, Misty says she has learned to adapt to different personalities among co-workers and help them develop their individual strengths. “Together we grow and change. First National has been so good to me! There’s not a better company to work for in this community.”

Candy and Misty were recognized for their years of dedication and service at a take-out luncheon recently held in their honor where they each received a gift in recognition of their years of service. The event was a bit unusual, due to COVID-19 restrictions and compliance with social distancing guidelines, but the goal to celebrate these anniversaries was achieved. When it comes to strength, stability and longevity, First National has stood the test of time through various challenges and generations of change.   Its dedicated employees are an asset in achieving the goal of being the best at serving the community.
