What You Should Know If You Become a Victim
It’s that time of year when tax return scams run rampant, and this year is no different, but a new one has recently come to light.
The IRS issued an alert, noting that data breaches on some tax preparers’ computers have provided fraudsters access to sensitive client information. In response, the IRS has issued a warning to tax preparers warning them of the new scheme, and to watch for phishing emails that can download malware onto their computers, but taxpayers need to be alert, as well.
Gift Tree Success
Two local communities benefited from gift tree programs sponsored by The First National Bank in Trinidad and the Huerfano County Branch in Walsenburg this Christmas.
In cooperation with Huerfano County Social Services and Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center the Huerfano County Branch was able to supply 78 veterans, 38 children and 17 adults in Huerfano County with a gift from Santa this year.
Community Gives Generously to Thanksgiving Food Drive
This year, 78 local families received a Thanksgiving surprise this year when gift certificates were delivered to families within the community. “Tears of joy and appreciation were flowing when we distributed these Thanksgiving gifts,” says First National Bank event coordinators, Corey Gonzales and Christa Smith-Prieto. Within 17 days, $5,571 in cash donations were collected for area families in need. Safeway in Trinidad was very helpful with issuing gift cards to ensure the recipients received them in time to shop for a holiday meal.
