Built in 1907 and serving the community of Walsenburg
for over one hundred years the La Plaza Inn is becoming, once again, a place of
vitality and activity as travelers and residents rediscover its charm and character.
Recently purchased by Jeff and Karen Wilson, the property is exactly what they were
looking for. After a year-long extensive search and much research, they decided
that this unique property had all the characteristics they desired. Nestled downtown
among shops and business activity and at the crossroads of many travelers, the Wilsons
saw this as an excellent opportunity to utilize the restaurant, hotel and meeting
facilities to again serve the community for regular meals, holidays, events, parties,
family reunions, and getaways to make La Plaza Inn a destination property in Walsenburg.
They are busy preparing the restaurant opening, renovating the guest rooms and kitchen,
and making lots of new friends along the way. Building on a vision and the hard
work of the previous owner, who has been helping the Wilsons learn the nuances of
their new venture along with the encouragement and support of residents, the Wilsons
are very excited to be able to offer a warm comfortable place to gather with friends
and family.
Jeff was born and raised in Colorado Springs and enjoyed Front
Range living before bringing his wife from their latest home in California back
to the Colorado lifestyle. Empty nesters with two kids in college, Jeff and Karen
are enjoying the friendly atmosphere and slower pace. "We have met so many wonderful
travelers and residents and look forward to developing lasting relationships and
serving the community. The La Plaza has so much potential to revitalize downtown
that we are investing our money and our lives into the area and believe that this
is the best kept secret in Colorado," says Jeff.
