Las Animas County

07/28/14: Las Animas County Fair will take place from July 28 to August 1 at the Las Animas County Fairgrounds. For more information, call 719-846-6881 or visit www.coopext.colostate.edu/lasanimas/.
07/30/14: Register by July 30th to go "Behind the Scenes and Under the Ground" on Saturday, August 2nd from 10 a.m. to noon at the Trinidad History Museum. Celebrate archaeology and historic preservation on a special tour about Dolores Baca as an ad hoc historic preservationist. View restoration and other projects in four buildings, museum archaeology, and how the buildings and grounds have changed over time. Call (719) 846-7217 to register. Cost is $13, or $8 for current History Colorado 2014 card members. Participants must be at least 12 years old, able to climb stairs and comfortable in cramped spaces.
07/30/14: Selfies with Your Pet Contest at the Las Animas County Fair on Wednesday, July 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. Come out and give it you best "shot!" Low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic will also be happening at the Las Animas County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Noah's Ark Animal Welfare Association. For more information, call (719) 680-2385.
08/01/14: Friday, August 1st is Colorado Day at the Trinidad History Museum. Free admission in celebration of Colorado's 138th statehood anniversary, with free self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Santa Fe Trail Museum, and guided tours of the Baca House and Bloom Mansion. Donations are appreciated. The museum is always free for children ages five and younger. For more information, call (719) 846-7217.
08/01/14: Registration for the Trinidad Community Center Flag Football Program for grades K through 2 will take place August 1st through 23rd. Registration is $30. Call (719) 846-4454 for more information.
08/01/14: Colorado Plein Air Art Festival "Paint Out" will be held at the Baca-Bloom Heritage Gardens on August 1st and 2nd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Co-sponsored by El Corazon de Trinidad Creative District. The public is invited to this two-day free event to visit with artists as they create art amid beautiful gardens, landmark residences, and living history activities. Artists register at www.gtmd.org, click on Colorado Plein Air.

08/01/14: Registration for the City of Trinidad Cheer for the upcoming football and basketball season for grades 3 through 6, will take place August 1st through 20th at the Trinidad Community Center. Call (719) 846-4454 for more information.
08/01/14: Low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for all Las Animas County residents' dogs and cats (including ferals) are avaliable through a grant to Noah's Ark Animal Welfare Association by the Animal Assistance Foundation. Dog spay/neuter co-pays $20, cat neuter co-pay $5, cat spay co-pay $10. Make an appointment at Fishers Peak Veterinary Clinic at (719) 846-3211 or Trinidad Animal Clinic (719) 846-3212 and tell them you want to use a Noah's Ark coupon. Hurry - coupons are limited!
08/04/14: Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre Summer Theatre Camp for youth ages 5 though 18, takes place August 4th through 17th and includes training and performance. Call the SCRT Office at (719) 846-4765 for details and applications.

08/08/14: August 8th, 9th and 10th the Snap Pea Jamboree Music Festival at Earth Mountain Education Farm will take place. Come out for a great weekend with workshops and family fun in the woods! Tickets available online at www.earthmountainfarm.org, $35 for the weekend, $25 for the day. This year's fest features Jaquie Gipson, blues man Bobbo Cordova, The Johnny Watson Band, Smith House, Planet O, and more!

08/16/14: Fishers Peak Horse Association (FPHA) offers affordable equine events to the Las Animas County community, which include all breed horse shows, trail rides, clinics, fun days, barrel races and good ole family fun. The All Breed Horse Shows offer events for children under 5 years of age, 8 and under, 9 to 13, 14 to 18, and 19 and over, and will be held at the Las Animas County Fairgrounds in Trinidad on August 16th and September 13th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free to spectators.
